Study shows plastic surgery benefits patients inside and out, by making them happier. In a study published in Clinical Psychological Science, 550 first-time plastic surgery patients were happier, enjoyed life more and had higher self-esteem after their surgery when compared with 264 people who had previously wanted plastic surgery but decided against it and 1,000 individuals who have had never been interested in plastic surgery.
All participants had relatively similar psychological and health background, including variables such as mental health and life satisfaction.
The researchers tested these individuals on their overall level of happiness every 3 months for one year. On average, patients who received cosmetic surgery said they achieved their desired goal.
