Between 2010 and 2011, chin augmentation increased by 71 percent, beating out breast augmentation and liposuction for the most popular surgery. Common chin augmentation patients feel they have a weak chin or an unbalanced profile that some believe makes the neck appear fleshier and nose appear larger. While we know the chin augmentation popularity was knocked out of first place by breast augmentation, at least locally, it is still a highly requested procedure.
During surgery, the chin implant is either placed over the lower jaw bone, or the chin surgically is moved forward. The procedure helps makes the patient’s chin look more pronounced and lengthen their face.
Chin augmentations are increasingly more popular with patients over 40, which could be the cause of sagging skin, especially along the jar line, as we age.
